Beautiful Beginnings and Endings

Dear Further Shore Friends,
Walking in the Ponderosa Pine forest last week I spotted the first sprouts of yellow flowers poking through the pine needles. Spring is finally coming to the still snow-capped mountain. Meadows are greening up, red-winged black birds are singing and daffodils are bobbing in the blustery wind. Springtime for me, especially during the astrological sign of Aries, marks a time of waking up to new beginnings and honoring what is ending. May all your “farewells” and your new beginnings be gentle. Joyfully, Aleia
Let your voice be heard! All adults can benefit from thinking about what their healthcare choices would be if they could not speak for themselves. April 16th is National Healthcare Decisions Day. Visit the site and consider completing your living will this month. Our own Meg Leander is available to guide individuals, families or groups through The Five Wishes, “a living will with heart and soul” that was created by the Florida nonprofit organization Aging with Dignity.
Hold the Date: June 29, 2013 from 10 a.m. to noon for Flagstaff’s first Death Café. The objective of Death Cafe is “To increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”. At Death Cafés people come together in a relaxed and safe setting to discuss death, drink tea and eat delicious cake. The idea of running Death Cafés came from the work of Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz. Jon Underwood (England) initiated Death Café as part of a set of social projects about death called Impermanence. Reservations will be required. Stay tuned for more details.
